Madan Chaudhary was picked from Wadala
A househelp has been arrested on the charge of stealing jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh from his employer's home at a plush Malabar Hill society. The police said the 30-year-old accused has a criminal past and the employer had not done the mandatory police verification before hiring him. They have urged citizens to get the procedure done for their own safety. All the jewellery has been recovered.
The police said accused Madan Chaudhary was working at Rimpal Jhaveri's home at Nepean Sea Road for three days as their regular help was on leave. "He is a habitual offender, there is a similar offence against him at Tardeo police station. Had the employers done the police verification, the crime wouldn't have happened," said Shashikant Pawar, an inspector from the property cell of the Crime Branch.
The police said Chaudhary committed the crime on January 13. At the time, all the members barring a senior citizen were out for work. "He was aware of the locker and the jewellery kept in it and accordingly committed the theft and left with everything," Said Neelotpal, DCP-Detection.
When the complainant returned home and found jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh missing from the locker, she filed a police complaint.
