The Valiv police immediately filed a revision petition in the sessions court in Vasai after the lower court granted magisterial custody remand (MCR) to Rohit Yadav, the man who allegedly killed 20-year-old Aarti with an industrial wrench on Tuesday. Additional Sessions Judge Jayendra C Jagdale heard the plea and overturned the lower court's decision, sending Rohit to police custody for five days.
Rohit was presented before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate GJ Srisundar to seek police custody. However, despite lengthy discussions, the lower court was not convinced about granting custody to the police.
Advocate Harish Gaur, representing Rohit, told mid-day that the police failed to persuade the lower court for custody. Gaur added that Srisundar, a civil judge with an additional charge on Wednesday, remained unconvinced despite the recovery of the murder weapon. "The police swiftly filed a revision petition in the sessions court, leading to the killer's remand in police custody for five days," Gaur said.

"Jayraj Ranaware, the senior inspector at Valiv Police Station where the FIR against Rohit is lodged, has been appointed as the investigating officer in the case," stated DCP Pournima Chougule-Shringi.
"After the lower court granted MCR to the accused, we promptly approached the sessions court and filed a revision petition. Following the hearing, the court remanded the accused to police custody until June 24," she added.
The additional public prosecutor argued in the sessions court that custody of the accused was necessary. "The murder weapon, an industrial wrench, needs an investigation into how the accused obtained it," said DCP Chougule-Shringi. "Given the brutality of the murder, we also need to probe if it involved a conspiracy and identify all involved parties," she added.
The deceased's parents have demanded capital punishment for Rohit to attain justice for Aarti.
