The duo who killed Pinky Misquitta alias Carol is "remorseless", said an officer privy to the investigation. Her boyfriend told interrogators that she "deserved" it. "It was a cold-blooded murder as both the killers had been living a normal life even after killing a woman and disposing of her body. They don't even regret what they have done," an officer attached to Palghar police told mid-day. Carol Misquitta, 28, was brutally murdered by her boyfriend and his friend last month.
Misquitta, who was from Vile Parle, was set to join a call centre job in Mumbai, was brutally killed by her boyfriend Zico Misquitta and his childhood friend Kumar Babu Devendran near Waghoba Ghat in Palghar last month. Her decomposed body was recovered on February 3, 10 days after she went missing. On Thursday, Carol's mother and other relatives visited the spot of crime in Palghar and offered prayers.

"The accused, Devendran. told interrogators that he can go to any extent for his childhood friend Zico, who believes that Carol deserved this fate as she was not ready to back off from his life even after knowing that he was set to get engaged with an Irla-based girl," said a police officer, requesting anonymity. "Carol had learnt that Zico was set to get engaged next month, and this made her uncomfortable as they had been dating for over five years," said Anita Shetty, a social activist, who has been assisting
Catherine. Sources in her friend circle told mid-day that Carol was "trying her best to reconcile". Shetty said, "On January 24, Carol called her mother who had gone out and asked her to return home as she planned to go out to meet Zico to sort things out." Another cop said, "Carol and Zico went to Kashimira on her scooter and started having a heated argument."

While the two killers claimed that they killed her in a fit of rage, they could not respond when asked why they were carrying a murder weapon if it was not planned. "They are hard nuts to crack. They are not cooperating in the investigation," said the officer.
Both the accused were produced before the court which extended their police remand for four days. Shetty said, "Palghar police told us that it was a cold-blooded murder. How could the Santacruz police not get a whiff of it when they questioned Zico briefly?"
"The investigators had said it was an open-and-shut case and Santacruz police were busy advertising and launching the Nirbhaya helpline while Carol's body was decaying in a secluded place⦠It is shameful," said Shetty.
