The Daund police station registered a case of triple murder against 33-year-old assistant sub-inspector Sanjay Shinde and arrested him on Tuesday, after he allegedly shot dead three of his gambling partners. Shinde, who is attached to the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), is currently deployed at a Daund-based armoury unit, which he heads. The deceased have been identified as Anil Jadhav, Gopal Shinde and Prashant Pawar. The incident took place between 12.30pm and 1.30pm on Tuesday. After killing the three men, Shinde hid inside a society in the area. When the Quick Response Team (QRT) tried to nab him, he escaped. Finally the cops managed to arrest him from Supa village in Ahmednagar.

Speaking to mid-day, Bhagwan Nimbalkar, senior inspector of Daund police station, said, "Shinde took some weapons from the armoury unit and first gunned down Anil near his bungalow at Boravakenagar area. Then he went to Nagarmerry chowk and killed Prashant and Gopal. During investigation it was found that Shinde knew the deceased from before and the incident was a fallout of a financial dispute."

Providing details about the case, Shinde said, "The trio was killed over a dispute of Rs 12,000. A QRT team tried to arrest him but he escaped. Thereafter, the Pune rural police caught him around 5pm."
