Thrashed by mob, chain snatcher dies 4 days later

In a case of instant justice delivered by a mob, an alleged chain snatcher succumbed to his injuries yesterday after he was beaten black and blue on June 5 by commuters after they caught him fleeing with a woman's gold chain


Four days after a blood-thirsty mob lynched an alleged chainsnatcher, the 30-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in Pimpri yesterday.

The deceased person identified as Amin Tamboli, a resident of Dhayari Phata off Sinhgad Road, was brutally thrashed by unidentified passengers after he allegedly attempted to snatch a gold chain from a woman commuter while she boarded a local train at Malvali railway station on June 5.

Lonavla police have registered a case of murder against the unknown passengers and investigations are ongoing to trace them.

"On June 5, a lady was boarding a local train at Malvali railway station when Amin snatched her chain and tried to flee. The lady cried for help and upon hearing her shrieks, some commuters gave chase and managed to nab Amin, and then beat him black and blue," said Santosh Patil, assistant police inspector at Lonavla Rural police.

Patil said that Shahjahan Inamdar, police patil at Malvali village, then alerted the Lonavla police and when they reached the spot they found Amin severally beaten up and lying on the road in a unconscious state.

"We then rushed him to a private hospital in Pimpri. He succumbed to his injuries yesterday," said Patil.u00a0
