A blackmailing rapist of a self-proclaimed godman was arrested in Satara on Wednesday for sexually abusing a 37-year-old woman, who had been deserted by her family due to an illness, on the pretext of curing her. The accused, identified as Hadarali Shaikh, had also taken 30 tolas of gold from her. While Shaikh is in the custody of the Satara city police, the woman has been admitted to a hospital. According to the police, "In 1996, the woman married and had two children. Later in 2007, she started falling ill and in 2008, her husband left her at her mother's house.
He deserted her and also did not let her children meet her. In 2015, a relative introduced the woman to Shaikh. Later, he used to treat her and console her. Once, he gave her a drink laced with some sedative, which made her unconscious. Later, he raped her. When the woman gained consciousness, Shaikh threatened her saying he would upload videos on social media and malign her image."
The officer added, "The woman had planned to approach cops last year, but Shaikh promised to marry her but continued raping her. Later, she also gave birth to a daughter. She then realised he was blackmailing her. He'd also taken around 30 tolas of gold from her. The woman approached us again [on Tuesday] and we arrested him."
