The accused, who was identified as Vishal Shivaji Kamble, is a resident of Kokate Mala in Pashan. Kamble, who was having an affair with his uncle's wife, hit her forehead with a hammer when she refused to elope with him, said the police.
His uncle, Anant Prakash Kshirsagar (36), who also resides in Pashan, registered an FIR at the Chaturshrungi police station.
Assistant Police Inspector V R Gaud, who is the investigating officer in the case, said, "Kshirsagar and Kamble are relatives, and both work as labourers. Kamble was having illicit relations with Kshirsagar's wife since six months.
On Monday evening, Kamble demanded sexual favours from the woman and asked her to elope with him. When the woman refused, Kamble got angry and hit a hammer on her forehead."
The woman received serious injuries and was admitted to hospital for treatment, while Kamble was booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
