Over 15 kg gold worth Rs 4.98 crore seized in Kolkata, four arrested

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized about 15.7 kg gold of foreign origin valued at Rs 4.98 crore and arrested four persons, an official said in Kolkata on Monday


The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized about 15.7 kg gold of foreign origin valued at Rs 4.98 crore and arrested four persons, an official said in Kolkata on Monday. "We intercepted three persons -- Ramesh Kumar Verma, Ashutosh Gupta and Anurag Kumar Pathak of Varanasi -- in Vibhuti Express at Howrah Railway station when they boarded the train for their onward journey to the holy city.

"Another person, Gyan Chand Verma, of the same syndicate travelling by the same train was arrested in Patna," the official said.

In West Bengal and the north eastern states, the agency, during the current fiscal, has seized over 238 kg of gold valued close to Rs 70 crore, smuggled from Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan.
