Yamunanagar (Haryana): A newly married woman was allegedly burned to death after her family was unable to pay a dowry of Rs 1 lakh. The alleged incident occurred in Teli Majra village in Haryana's Yamunanagar.
According to India Today, the victim, identified as Sonam, succumbed to death in PGI Hospital, where she was admitted for severe burn injuries. Following which the victim's father registered a complaint with the Haryana Police against the in-laws for allegedly killing his daughter after their dowry demand was not met.
In the complaint, the father had alleged that on June 10, his daughter's husband and brother-in-law came to his house to drop her off and asked him to send her back only when Rs 1 lakh was arranged.
However, the father arranged some money and sent the daughter back to her in-laws with her husband and brother-in-law the same day. The next day, he received a call from the in-laws saying that his daughter is admitted to PGI Hospital after suffering burn injuries.
