A 57-year-old woman was brutally attacked by an unknown person at her residence at Mahatma Phule Chawl at Gorai road in Borivli (West) on Sunday night.
She was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital but was declared brought dead. The deceased has been identified as Sahubai Kachru. She was staying with her two sons, their wives and grandchildren in the chawl. According to the police, the incident took place at around 11 pm.
Sahubai's daughter Sunita Bhalerao stays in the neighbourhood with her husband. Sunita's minor daughter went to meet her grandmother. However, the child found her grandmother lying in a pool of blood and informed her mother, who called the police and rushed Sahubai to the hospital.

During check-up, the doctor found a deep injury on Sahubai's forehead and declared her brought dead, said an officer from Borivli police station.
"Sunita's daughter came running to her mother and told her to check on the grandmother, who was lying unconscious on the floor and blood was coming out from her head and nose," the police officer added.
"We have registered a case of murder and investigation is underway. We have called Sahubai's sons for questioning," said another police officer.
