The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs on Friday caught a senior citizen who was trying to smuggle gold. The officers seize Rs.67.72 lakhs of gold during night duty on October 16.
On the basis of intelligence and profiling, the AIU intercepted three passengers traveling together.
83-year-old Nurjahan Shekhmahamad Tanki (holding Indian PP No. K 4809875), Khushnavid Mohamed Ismail Tanki (holding Indian passport number J 9132594) and Sadat Imam Mohamed Tanki (holding Indian passport number Z 3140169) were caught after they arrived from Dubai via Muscat by Oman Air flight no WY 201, which landed in Mumbai at around 5.30am.
22 gold bars of 10 tola each and three cut pieces were recovered from these passengers. These gold bars totally weighed 2.816 kilogram valued at Rs.67.72 lakhs from the lady passenger.
Gold was kept in small zipper hand pouch and concealed in specially made zipper pocket in her salwar.
"The male passengers were using her and giving her cover to pass the gold from green channel while they were intercepted," said a Mumbai Customs Officer.
