Dharavi resident Shankar KunchÂikuÂrÂve, 25, was relaxing over a drink inside a local shop when some of his acquaintances and local residents physically assaulted him over a past dispute. The incident led to his death. Police sources said Shankar worked as a cleaner. Shankar's brother, Arjun, 23, has named two local residents and brothers, Mangesh and Shoma, for thrashing the 25-year-old to death. Arjun said, "Around four people, including Mangesh and Shoma, assaulted my brother. There were wounds all over his body."
While the cause for the dispute is yet to be ascertained, ACP Sunil Deshmukh said, "Following preliminary investigations we have learnt that MangÂesh charged at Shankar over a past dispute. During the fight, Shankar fell on the road and hurt his head, which led to excessive blood loss and, consequently, his death." Arjun's younger brother, Suraj, claimed that one of Shankar's friend had witnesÂsed the incident. "Cops rushed him to Sion Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival."
An officer said, "We reached the incident spot later to check CCTV footage from nearby cameras. But, several locals approached us saying they had seen Mangesh and Shoma assaulting Shankar. We detained the duo for questioning. Around 1 am, we booked the brothers under IPC Sections 302 and 34 for murder."
