Mobile retailer arrested by ATS for forging documents

The state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) yesterday arrested a mobile shop owner for allegedly selling SIM cards to prospective customers by forging mandatory documents.


The shopkeeper would utilise documents submitted by his former customers who had purchased SIM cards from his store in Adarshnagar, Dighi and then forge them to secure SIM cards from telecom companies. The arrested accused has been identified as Ganpat Damodar Garg (42), a resident of Dighi who hailed from Rajasthan.

50 SIMS revovered
ATS sleuths claim to have recovered 50 SIM cards, passport size photographs, and voting card photocopies of 25 people from the shop.u00a0According to ATS officers, the retailer used to sell SIM cards of Tata DOCOMO to customers who did not have the required documents, and acquire the SIM cards from the telecom company by forging old customers' documents.

Garg has been arrested under sections 467 (forgery), 471 (using forged document as genuine) and 474 (possessing forged document and intending to use it as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code. On Thursday afternoon, Garg was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) S S Bose and he has been remanded in police custody till November 14.u00a0
