In a bid to snatch a gold chain from a two-and-a-half-year old child, a miscreant silt his throat with a blade and critically injured him at a village in Odisha's Jajpur district, police said today.
The seriously injured boy of Sarangagarh village was rushed to the local hospital and later shifted to Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack.
The child's condition is stated to be stable. The miscreant, however, could not steal the chain even after attackign the boy.

In his FIR filed with the local police, the father of the victim, Santosh Rout, alleged that his son was playing in front of his house when the miscreant cut the chain around his neck in a bid to steal it.
Hearing the child's screams, his mother came out and saw the miscreant was cutting his chain.
As she raised an alarm, the miscreant slit the child's neck and fled leaving the chain, the FIR said.
Inspector In-Charge of Kuakhia police station Bijay Kumar Aich said efforts were on to nab the miscreant. u00a0
