The accused allegedly stabbed and strangled Bonu Janaki
A young woman in Hyderabad was allegedly murdered by her colleague who had been harassing her for months, less than a month after another woman was set on fire by a stalker. Twenty-four-year-old Bonu Janaki was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife and also strangled inside her home.
Anand Ananthappa, who worked with Janaki at a supermarket, has been arrested. A senior police officer said Ananthappa had been harassing Janaki and wanted to marry her but she had repeatedly refused him. Janaki had even complained to her colleagues, who had apparently tried to talk him out of his obsession, media reports said.
On Tuesday night, Ananthappa went to Janaki's home, and after an argument, allegedly stabbed her three times. Police sources say he then strangulated her. When Janaki's roommate Roopa returned home from work, she found her lying on the floor. She took her to hospital, but by then, it was too late. Police officer Bhujang Rao said Janaki died due to strangulation; she had also lost a lot of blood from the abdominal stabbing.
