Rashmi Manish Kulbargi, a lecturer in an engineering college, couldn't take the ill treatment meted out to her by her husband's family any more and chose to end her life by hanging herself at her residence in Dhankawadi on Friday.
Sahakarnagar police arrested Rashmi's husband Manish (29), also an engineer, and her brother-in-law Amol (30) on the charge of abetting her suicide.
Manish and Amol were remanded to police custody till Wednesday by the judicial magistrate (first class) court on Sunday. Rashmi's mother-in-law Shashikala and sister-in-law Nikita are still absconding.
The victim's father, Ambasa Malkasa Bhandge (58), has lodged the FIR against the four accused.
Police Sub-Inspector Madhukar Phunde from Sahakarnagar police station said, "Manish and Rashmi got married in June 2011 after their families got to know each other through a matrimonial website.
But after their wedding, Manish and his family members began harassing her physically and mentally. They were forcing her to quit her job. They also constantly hurled abuses at her and taunted her over her cooking skills."
"Bhandge has also claimed that the gold ornaments given to Rashmi during her marriage ceremony have also been stolen by her in-laws. We have got police custody of the husband and brother-in-law for recovery of these ornaments and will also nab the absconding two suspects," Phunde said.
