Gold worth over Rs 24 lakh was seized from a passenger who arrived at Thiruvananthapuram airport from Dubai today and one person arrested in this connection, customs officials said in Kochi


Gold worth over Rs 24 lakh was seized from a passenger who arrived at Thiruvananthapuram airport from Dubai today and one person arrested in this connection, customs officials said in Kochi. The passenger Siddique Vellai Meeran Khader Mohideen arrived at the airpot in an Emirates flight from Dubai.

The Officers of Air Intelligence Unit, Air Customs, effected the seizure of six crude gold chains totally weighing 799.430 gms and valued at Rs 24.36 lakh, concealed in the baggages and under garments of Mohideen, Customs Commissioner Sumit Kumar said in a release here.

Due to spurt in smuggling cases, the customs sleuths were maintaining tight vigil at the airport and subjecting suspicious passengers to strict checks, Kumar said.
