When Pavan Nagar resident Gorakh Sonawane's (29) vehicle brushed against a car while parking three days ago, the two motorists got into a heated argument and hurled abuses at each other. But, this was not the end of the dispute.
On Sunday night around 9:30, the man whose vehicle was scratched by Sonawane, was back with his gang to avenge the damage done to his vehicle.
The gang of seven, armed with bats, bamboo sticks and iron rods targeted the parking area in Pavan Nagar and started to damage the vehicles. When residents and vehicle owners rushed to the spot to stop the destruction, they molested the women and also manhandled senior citizens. 15 vehicles - two autorickshaws, two tempos, a car and 10 two-wheelers were damaged in the incident.
Disturbed by this incident, a local resident from Pavan Nagar in Bibwewadi, Dattatray Kakade (19), lodged a complaint with the Bibwewadi police station against seven unidentified persons. Of the seven, two gang members Satish Jagadhand and Vishal Walekar have been arrested and charged under section 425 (destruction of property), section 354 (assault, outraging the modesty of a woman) and section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
A P Jagtap, inspector in-charge of Bibwewadi police said, "Gorakh Sonawane's vehicle had brushed against the vehicle of a youth three days ago, and in order to create terror in the area, the gang of seven marched with bats, bamboo sticks and iron rods to damage vehicles parks in Pavan Nagar area. When some of the vehicle owners, including Sonawane, came to stop the destruction, they molested women and also manhandled senior citizens."
Sonawane has sustained head injuries and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

A resident from the area said, "This is not the first time our vehicles have been damaged. Other gangs too have targeted our vehicles. We are in constant worry about our vehicles since our livelihood depends on them."
