The accused had promised the complainant transfer of development rights for a plot in Kothrud area; but they did not stick to the agreement

Kothrud police have registered a case against two persons on the charge of duping a businessman to the tune of Rs 45 lakh on the pretext of giving him the transfer of development rights (TDR) for a plot located at Sangam Chowk in Kothrud.

The businessman, Prakashmal Shantilal Jain (62), a resident of Rajendra Park society in Shukrawar Peth, has lodged a complaint in this regard against the two persons he has identified as Sanjay Vasant Manjare and Suhas Nanasaheb Ubhe. Police Inspector Kalyan Vidhate of Kothrud police station said the land in this case originally belonged to one Balasaheb Mokate, but it was acquired by the Pune Municipal Corporation in 1980 for constructing a road.

Mokate did not get the TDR certificate against the acquisition of this land. Later, after Mokate's death, Manjare, who is a relative of Mokate's and deals in TDR cases, started dealing with Jain in 2007 over the property.

"After Mokate's death, between 2007 and 2013, Manjare and Ubhe had various meetings with Jain. In these years, Jain paid the duo Rs 45 lakh for getting the TDR. But Manjare and Ubhe were unable to get related documents from the PMC. When Jain realised that the suspects could not produce the documents, he contacted the police and registered a case against them," Vidhate said.
