Constable dies after speeding bike hits him, biker held

A police constable died after he was hit by a speeding bike in Mahim on Friday night. The accused bike rider has been booked by the police on charges of causing death by negligence. The deceased constable has been identified as Krishna Gosavi, 51. According to the Mahim police, the incident took place around 9.45 pm at Arunkumar Vaidhya Marg Mahim near Sarvoday Rahiwasi Sangh Mahim (West).

18-year-old Rashid Sheikh, a Dharavi resident was heading towards the south Mumbai when on his KTM Bike when he hit the Gosavi, who was on night duty and was going to the Sagar police station. "It was the motorcyclist, who immediately rushed Gosavi to the Hinduja hospital, where he died during treatment in late night. When a police officer from Mahim Sagri police station called on Gosavi's phone to take information and updates, it was then Sheikh picked up the call and told them that Gosavi died in a road accident. He also revealed that he was riding the two-wheeler," said a police officer.

Sheikh, who himself sustained some injuries in the accident, has been booked and arrested under section 304A (causing death by negligence), 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and various section of Motor Vehicle Act," said a police official from Mahim police station, adding, "The boy was produced in the court and was sent to judicial custody."
