American tourist gangraped: Himachal Police arrests 3 accused

Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) B Kamal Kumar said that a special investigating team headed by IG Range has begun its probe into the matter.

"Three men have committed this rape. One of them (the accused) is a truck driver. This incident took place in Vashist village, in Manali. They (members of a special investigating team) have already started the investigation. We have also arrested the three accused persons," Kumar told ANI in Shimla.

The Director General of Police further said that the American embassy has been informed about the incident.

"We have immediately informed the American embassy and some officials from American embassy are also expected. They (officials from American Embassy) will also come," he said.

According to reports, the woman was on a holiday with three other Americans in Manali and was returning to her guesthouse alone when the incident took place.
