New Delhi: A 51-year-old Danish woman was robbed and raped by a group of men near the New Delhi railway station. The Danish woman, who came to India on January 1, had gone to visit a museum on Tuesday evening but lost her way to her hotel in Paharganj, a tourist hub in the heart of Delhi.

Around 4 pm, a group of men lured her to an isolated spot where she was robbed of her iPad and cash and then raped by six men, one of who had a knife, police said. She was kept hostage for more than three hours, and somehow reached her hotel around 7 pm. A police officer said the woman was âhighly traumatised' when she reached the police station. "She was bruised on her face and neck."
The manager of her hotel called the police around 9.30 pm. Law-enforcement officials in Delhi are holding 15 men in custody following the gang rape. "Police have identified the men involved in the crime and are conducting further investigation," said special commissioner of the police Deepak Mishra. "They are all vagabonds," an official said.
The Danish embassy has been informed and the woman is expected to leave for Denmark today. According to police, the woman - who had returned to Delhi on Monday after visiting Agra - has said she will return to India to depose if needed. Condemning the rape, ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stressed the need for fast track courts, and for bringing Delhi Police under the purview of the state government. "This is a dangerous situation, and he (Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal) has spoken to the lieutenant-governor.
Now the LG, the chief minister and the police commissioner will meet to review the rape incidents that have occurred in the last one year," said Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia, adding, "We will also request the Chief Justice of India to take all the rape cases to fast track courts, so that the strictest punishment is meted out to the culprits."
