23-yr-old teacher held for molesting 26-yr-old student

A teacher at a private coaching class was arrested yesterdayand charged with molesting an adult student who used to frequent the institute to learn English.

Yerawada police said the accused Umashankar Mishra made advances towards the 26-year-old woman when other students were not present in the classroom.

"The victim was not a student at the accused's coaching classes, but was taking tailoring lessons in the vicinity. After finishing with the dressmaking lessons, she would attend the classes that taught English," said M M Salunke, assistant inspector at Yerawada police station.

Salunke said that the victim, in her statement, alleged that Mishra took advantage of her when she was alone in the classroom.

"On Saturday afternoon, when other students were yet to come to class, Mishra allegedly molested her by taking advantage of her being alone," said Salunke.

The police official said that when the woman got to know about the teacher's ill-intention, she ran away from the class and lodged a complaint at the Yerawada police station.

"We have arrested him [Mishra] under Section 354 (molestation). He was, however, released on bail later.u00a0
