The dictionary has unfamiliar terms like Seenzone, and familiar ones
Navigating online dating comes with trials, errors and never-have-I-evers, not to forget new slang. Who can keep up? That's why the good folks at Agents of Ishq have curated a dictionary of digital dating.
You'll spot familiar abbreviations like PDA (Public Display of Affection) and new entrants like DTR (Define The Relationship. Meaning: asking one's partner for a label - Are we exclusive? Or do you have a side-piece?). The Agents list down terms like Cuffing Season (hunting for a temporary partner for the holidays), Benching (dating someone you aren't very attracted to while dating another to keep options open), and Situationship (a convenient relationship based on location and relationship status).
Paromita Vohra, founder and creative director of Agents of Ishq, shares her favourites: Umfriend, FBO and Paperclipper. She also mentions Seenzone with a knowing laugh. "I've definitely Seenzoned people. When I don't want to talk to them and they're not getting the hint, I leave them on seen [without replying to the message]."
Scroll through the dictionary and you'll learn at least one new term that's probably happened in your dating life - whether on the giving or receiving end, we won't presume. But before you do, Vohra gives us something to remember and remedy. She says, "Slang, emojis, digital dating - all of these exist for us to have fun, not to be violent or uncaring towards each other. The digital world gives you the option to meet people, but also gives you the option of not being well-behaved."
