A weekend session by The Darshan Doshi trio highlights the magic of skilled electronic music production on the live stage

Darshan Doshi in performance

There is something primal yet delicate about the rhythm of the drum. Its pace, tone and power can prove captivating. Few musicians understand it as well as Darshan Doshi. The drummer will showcase an example of these facets alongside Rickraj and Hashbass at the G5A Warehouse tonight.

A part of the Live at the Warehouse series, the trio's performance will highlight the stylistic facets of the genre. Doshi underlines that despite growing interest, electronica remains a niche genre. "What I have done with Rickraj Harshit and Hashbass is work more on the drumming bass and electronic genre. Unfortunately, it is not a very commercial genre that you get to play every day," he admits.

The weekend session is one of those rare moments at a venue Doshi admires, he says. "As musicians, we are always on the lookout for a great audience and vibe that pushes us further." His fellow musicians contribute towards this evolution as well. Having worked with the duo on a tour in 2021, Doshi reveals their latest album emerged more naturally. Calling the former of the ‘finest producers in the country for electronic music', he notes, "We come from different musical backgrounds, but they are so professionally sound that it pushes my work to another level. This chemistry and challenge is important. You must always perform with musicians better than yourself. It inspires you to find new nuances and enables your growth on stage."

The trio released their last work, Live on Tour 2022, in August last year, and the drummer is already at work on his next. "I am working on my next album, which is scheduled to release in July or August.
There is also a project with the Darshan Doshi Collective coming up this year." With a focus on vocal-oriented compositions, Doshi hopes that the new album from the collective will move in an interesting direction. This year promises to be a highly productive one for the drummer who is part of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's Europe tour. He is also part of the team that created music for The Archies film by Zoya Akhtar. It looks like the music is just starting for this trio.
