This summer, enroll your kids for fun coding and game development classes

In this digital age, computer programming has emerged as a necessary learning skill. Coming generations of kids will not require a technical degree in hand to create a computer application or any technical appliances. iCode School, an organisation based in Texas, founded by Abid Abedi established the idea of creating a global space for kids to learn coding and other programming skills with their peers in April 2015. The school has its presence in over 20 locations across the world, and had established its first centre in India at Churchgate, Mumbai in October 2021. The platform organises different programs in computer science to help children build their academic and soft skills.

"Jobs of tomorrow will be driven by technology. Preparing kids with critical STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills will equip them to compete in a digital and global workforce. When young minds brainstorm together, they pave the way to becoming creators of technology instead of only being consumers of technology," says Kavita Shah, director, iCode Mumbai.

This month, iCode is hosting a couple of camp programmes. The first is a two-day junior creator session that includes discovering electronics and game development. The camp meant for six to 10-year-olds, provides learning in the fundamentals of hardware and software manipulation by building electrical circuits using Snap Circuits and Makey Makey. With soft skills like problem-solving, analytical and programming skills, students will be able to develop games, Shah assures.

The other session is a drone code programme, meant for 10 to 16-year-olds. It will introduce campers to basic flight mechanics and aerodynamic principles that explain the essentials of drone-flying. It will teach them rudimentary python, a programming language, to create flying patterns that can be used to develop a drone. Soft skills like critical analysis and quick decision-making will be the focus of this two-day learning programme.
