Last weekend, I sat down to watch The Great Indian Kitchen, a film that created quite a stir in the family WhatsApp group. What initially served as an unpleasant tale of age-old sexism, soon turned into a shrewd reminder of the realities many women in patriarchal households face. Through the course of the movie I also realised that this piece of regional cinema had managed to capture nuances I otherwise find missing in most movies.
