A two-day discussion hopes to spread awareness about India’s rich maritime heritage

Dating back to 3000 BC, India's maritime links have played an integral role in paving the way for trade and commerce. It is also believed that the world's first tidal dock came to be in Lothal, during the Harappan civilisation. Deep-diving into many such nuggets is a two-day workshop being presented by the Maritime History Society (MHS) and the Indian Maritime University, Visakhapatnam campus.

The sessions are titled Maritime History of India: A Manthan. "We will cover traditional Indian shipbuilding as well as nautical skills and how Indians use the monsoon to sail. We'll close with infrastructural developments that include a story about how with the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai developed its maritime infrastructure," says Commodore Odakkal Johnson, director, MHS.
