Ramya Pothuri
Last week, an article in this section had mentioned how many independent musicians had spent the pandemic adding to their core artistic skill set, learning tricks like mixing and mastering tracks, now that live gigs are out of the window and they have more free time in hand.
Ramya Pothuri seems to be one such person because though she has played the role of a producer before, her new single, Dream of us, sees her placing that cap more firmly on her head. Pothuri left Mumbai for Hyderabad, her hometown, during the lockdown last year, and this song is a nostalgic look-back at the fond memories the singer-songwriter made in this city. The dream-pop format that she has chosen as her musical vehicle fits in well with that melancholic theme.
This is easy, uncomplicated listening that's more chicken soup for the soul than pungent mustard which stings the brain. Or, it's more like soothing balm being applied on the wounds that the pandemic has left in us, rather than salt being sprinkled on it.
