A participant tries her hand at Gond painting at a previous workshop
India's cultural heritage is a diverse mix that spans centuries of influences. In order to preserve its treasures, Iteeha, a city-based textile consultancy company, has been conducting workshops on various forms of folk art in India.
Ritika Jhunjhunwala, along with her team at the consultancy firm, will hold a workshop on Gond T-shirt painting, with an intent to spread awareness about the colourful art form that is inspired from the Gond tribal art of Madhya Pradesh. "Gond paintings are originally displayed on walls and consist of simple drawings of animals and trees. It is also called illusion art due to its vibrant colouring and textures. With this workshop, we are aiming to bring people to understand that though digital printing is the trend, handmade Gond paintings are easy and fun to make," says Jhunjhunwala, adding that the outcome is a one-of-a-kind T-shirt for each participant.

Jhunjhunwala believes that such workshops will educate people about the difference between digital printing and handmade work in traditional art. Besides, she feels it will ensure that the skill and artistry of Gond artisans are in the public domain. The workshop is inclusive of all materials and open for spot registrations.
