Two previous sessions conducted for children at the Khar venue
Saturdays at 3 Art House in Khar West are dedicated to kids. This weekend, the space will host a session titled Walk Through The Jungle by The Acoustic Classroom which will explore the sounds of the wilderness.
The Acoustic Classroom, a music institute founded in 2018, includes an early childhood programme for children aged one and a half to eight years. Founder Banat Kaur Bagga shares that the institute follows the Dalcroze eurhythmics methodology of imbibing rhythm within the student's body through movement-based exercises. "These exercises are contextual and based on things that kids would observe on a daily basis. For instance, if we're talking about speed, we ask the kids to observe things around them like the ceiling fan and how it speeds up and down when switched on and off. In music, these concepts have theory names - accelerando and ritardando," Bagga continues, "The idea is for students to observe these fundamental structures in daily occurrences and emulate them within their body. Then, we try the application of the topic learned through their body in an instrument and their voice. At five, we start further intensive vocal training, or the piano or ukulele."

The methodology, being dynamic, includes space for creativity when it comes to the exercises. "Anything you observe can become an exercise," Bagga reveals. This is where the workshop incorporates the imagination, movements, activities, and sounds of a walk through a jungle. Kids embarking on this adventure will be taken through the sounds of a jungle - animal sounds, rudimentary percussion sounds and more - through exercise. "In the end, kids will apply what they have learnt into a song," Bagga concludes.
Kids aged four to nine years are invited to attend the workshop. Don't forget to bring your enthusiasm, imagination and a bottle of drinking water.
