Make-up palettes will focus heavily on green this year, say beauty pundits. Here’s how you can wear this shade with panache

Moving on from millennial pink, it seems that beauty lovers have a new obsession - Gen Z green. Social media is witness to the growing popularity of this colour in its various hues - from matte to metallic to even neon green accents. "With beauty trends from the '80s and '90s getting a second lease of life, bright colours such as green have come back into rotation. Green is also fairly neutral, which makes it easy to incorporate it into your wardrobe and make-up routine," explains make-up artist Natasha Nyss.

Greening your palette

It's important to find the right green that accentuates your skin tone, Nyss says. For instance, if you have olive skin, you'd be best picking khaki or olive colours, while deeper skin tones can experiment with shimmery pastel greens. Blue-green shades will bring out the warmth in brown eyes. Conversely, if you're after a more dramatic look, she suggests picking shades that contrast your skin tone. So, if you have a warmer skin tone, you should dip into turquoise shades. When it comes to make-up, the most neutral green that is safe, even for beginners, is olive.

Wear with flair

Easy ways to incorporate green into your daily look is to switch from black to green eyeliner or use multiple green shades for an ombré effect. Else, only use green in your waterline while keeping the rest of your make-up fairly neutral. You could also layer matte and shimmery shades for a more saturated eye shadow look, Nyss suggests. Green works quite well with purple in a gradient look as both shades complement each other. Light, shimmery green can be used as an accent colour in the inner corners of your eye. For the rest of your face, you could experiment with a variety of green lipsticks such as olive or metallic. Pops of green on your nails can be a refreshing change - from green French tips to more elaborate designs, the colour lends itself well to playful, summery looks as we enter the warmer months, Nyss signs off.
