As part of the second season of the masterclass, Ace It With The Masters, veteran performer Hariharan will conduct a virtual lesson on ghazals. "The idea is to conduct a class that is synonymous with the artiste. It is not often that people get close access to top artistes, where they can learn and listen about the craft," shares Aishwarya Natarajan, founder of Indianuance, the platform that is organising these sessions. In the two-day lecture series, Hariharan will teach participants about one of Ghalib's poetry composed exclusively for this workshop. "I chose one of his simpler poems that everyone can relate to, and is also easy to pick up. The language will be easy for the participants and I will focus on bringing out the emotion in the composition," shares the singer.
The ancient art form of the ghazal has an avid following, and has experienced a lot of change over time. It is still one of the more technical forms of music in India, and Hariharan's innate interest and knowledge of the genre is bound to make for an engaging lecture. "Masterclasses are dime a dozen these days in the virtual world. What makes this series stand out is that we are allowing for interactive sessions where the onus is on learning the art form, and where participants are making it their own instead of making it a one-sided talk. We will also provide an attendee view option where the participant can enjoy the lecture without engaging in the singing and interactive aspects of the lecture series," explains Natarajan.
"These virtual workshops dissolve all boundaries. It is not only an experience for people all over the world but is also equally fascinating for me to interact with such diverse students of music," admits Hariharan about the trend of virtual workshops. Natarajan rightfully mentions that there is no substitute for practice and training, but this is a great add-on experience for everyone.
