The effects of climate change are growing increasingly obvious by the day, and it's at a point where we can't ignore it anymore," says Madhushree Kamak, programme manager at the Science Gallery Bengaluru. To mark the EU Climate Diplomacy week of 2021, the newly-founded institution, along with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bengaluru and the Consulate General of Switzerland, is inviting submissions for their Climate: Through Your Eyes initiative.

Till October 10, those between the ages of 18 and 25 years can submit photographs, GIFs and short videos (up to five seconds long) on the climate themes of migration, resilience, fumes, heat and floods. "We are using the EU Diplomacy Week as an opportunity to create this participatory programme where we're encouraging young adults to submit their creative responses to these themes," shares Kamak.

The shortlisted candidates will also be given the opportunity to be mentored by wildlife photographer and filmmaker Kalyan Varma. "We strongly believe in the concept of mentorship. The idea behind it is that with exposure and interactions with Varma, who has been working in this space for many years, the candidates will not only improve their photography skills, but will also be able to think in terms of climate and other factors important to the environment," she adds.

For those yet to send their entries and in need of some inspiration, the Instagram account of the institution provides prompts on the given themes, with pictures from different photographers from across the globe. "If anyone out there is in a creative rut, we've posted some images as prompts to inspire them," she concludes.
