A T-shirt series inspired by India’s metros presents a cool way to flaunt Mumbai

Phone covers among other customised merchandise

Are you someone who lives and breathes the moods and tenses of Mumbai? Do you feel a rare kick when you carry a token of the city as part of your identity? If yes, this indie platform might pique your interest with its select city-centric products. While browsing the Internet, we stumbled upon a unisex T-shirt with a cartographic image of Mumbai. Seeing the island city in fragmented framed maps is common, but a vector-style bird's eye view of its central-to-southern tip on a shirt is special.

The website offers T-shirts

Chennai-based clothing label Cover It Up has a range of pullover shirts that are an ode to India's metros. Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad or Bengaluru - the site has something for every proud metropolitan. When we ask him about the inspiration for the idea, Surya Narayan, creative director at the label's design team, shares, "A few months ago we launched a mobile case series that soon caught up with the country's youth. These phone back covers were fully customised and would carry a person's name and city personality, along with a map image of the place." He shares an example; a map of Kolkata with Kolkatan Raisha or a map of Mumbai with Mumbaikar Dinesh Kumar is written along the lower border of the cover. "The T-shirt range takes after that phone cover idea. It is more of an extension of that series," he adds.

While we are happy with this interpretation of Mumbai on a tee, we are keen to know if other local prints and varieties will be seen on their website soon. Narayan informs, "We can come up with a range only on the basis of majority response. Until then, anybody can upload their design or print of choice and place an order for customised merchandise."
