A weekend exhibition brings together music and art for a diverse sensory experience

Meghna Singh Patpatia’s artworks on display at the Bandra gallery

The Greek myth of Icarus has been passed down through the ages in many forms. It also formed the inspiration for Meghna Singh Patpatia's ongoing exhibition, Garden of Icarus, at Bandra's Art and Charlie. Ayesha Parikh, founder of the culture house, explains that Patpatia's work was in tangent with the gallery's idea to exhibit contemporary works with a strong cultural base.

"Meghna's work is a metaphor that deals with the need for balance between ecology and modern development." The exhibition also marks a step change for the artist who departed from her monotone style for the show, Parikh points out. While the exhibit closes on Sunday, it will be a remarkably different experience for the patrons visiting on the last day.

The closing day will feature a three-part jazz listening session that is curated by The Revolver Club. Parikh elaborates, "We have been experimenting with how different forms of art correlate to each other. The curation of the three different albums is inspired by the Garden of Icarus, and sheds light on a different facet of the story. The session will open with Dave Holland's Conference of the birds, 1972, followed by Keith Jarrett's The Koln Concert, 1975, and conclude with John Coltrane's The final struggle, 1960. "In addition to the visual element of the artworks, the sense of hearing is activated by the experience," says Parikh. An apt way to experience a flight of imagination, we say.
