Watch medical students try their hand at poetry at this Mumbai college festival

Social media, in recent years, has brought to the fore many budding poets. One such individual who sent the Internet into a frenzy last year was Yahya Bootwala whose video, Shayad Wo Pyaar Nahi, became a talking point. KEM Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College's Aavishkaar Literati 2018, a four-day cultural festival, has roped in Bootwala to judge their slam poetry competition. He will also be performing three of his own pieces at the event.

The event, Slam It, is already proving to be a major crowd-puller. "I'm thrilled and looking forward to the event. Slam poetry has blown up in the past few years and it's exciting to see people come up and express themselves on stage," says Bootwala. The event will see a total of 12 participants, mostly students, competing to claim the winner's tag.

"We wanted to bring out hidden talent in medical students and also propagate the culture of slam poetry," says Ankur Shinde, core committee member, Aavishkaar.
Apart from the poetry event, the festival has a wide array of literary, fine arts, and Hindi and Marathi drama events that are open to all.
