Agents of Ishq, a platform that promotes conversations around intimacy, is celebrating its second anniversary with a discussion on the subject of eroticism
While there might be moral policing and social taboos in contemporary India, it's also true that our country has a rich erotic tradition, which we barely know about even though we call ourselves the land of The Kamasutra. So feels Paromita Vohra, a writer, filmmaker and founder of an initiative called Agents of Ishq (AoI). The aim behind starting AoI, she tells us, was to use art as a medium to start a friendly and relatable discussion around the subject of sex. Keeping in line with that vision, the initiative will celebrate its second birthday this weekend with an event that features a conversation with author Amruta Patil, who will draw a parallel with Indian mythology and our society's historical attitudes to eroticism.

Asked about what's in store at the discussion, Patil says, "Essentially, we will be talking about what in my opinion are some of the more interesting love stories that took place in the epics. We will also look at my older works, like Kari, which is not mythological at all. We will be talking about different sorts of love affairs- love affairs that were doomed, that were strategic and that were political, for instance."

Vohra adds, "Amruta will also talk about the idea of gender in mythology and discuss how mythology helps us make sense of our present-day intimate life. So, contemporary issues that all confront around gender, romance and even dating will feature in the conversation, with mythology as the prism."
