The year begins on a musical note with maestros performing at a three-night festival

The notes of Indian classical music have always been an emblem of our country's rich cultural heritage, and continuing the legacy, Swaraprabha Charitable Trust will be organising Swaranjali, a three-night musical festival later this week. It will feature iconic flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia along with sitarist Ustad Shahid Parvez, vocalists Ustad Rashid Khan, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande and Kaushiki Chakroborty.

The festival, a reverence of musical notes, was initiated 16 years ago by classical singer and chairman of the trust, Pandit Prabhakar Karekar, as a tribute to his gurus, the late Padmabhushan Pandit CR Vyas, the late Pandit Suresh Haldankar and the late Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki. "Every year, we bring together noted artistes of classical music to celebrate the contribution of my gurus to the music sphere," he adds stating that famous artistes like the late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Ustad Zakir Hussain and Rahul Sharma among others have previously graced the event.
Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia is appreciative of the idea behind the prospect of the success of the festival. "Pandit Karekar is doing a great job and many more such events must be organised around the country to promote and celebrate Indian classical music," he elaborates, adding that it is a great platform to pay tribute to the greats as well as usher in the New Year.
