Head to Worli to witness Mumbai's first cycling festival, which aims to make the activity a bigger part of the Mumbaikar's lives

Log on to any website that lists happenings in the city, and you will find a string of activities that encourage you to explore Mumbai and its surrounds on a bicycle, from midnight rides through its heritage precincts to those that have you pedalling all the way to Alibaug.

Needless to say, cycling has become popular enough to demand its own festival. This weekend, Nehru Centre in Worli will play host to the India Cycling Festival, which claims to be the first of its kind in the country.

"We're holding this event to promote a cycling culture in the city. Cycling in India is already seeing huge popularity, through events centred around the sport, and the presence of communities that promote cycling," says Nirav Vasavada of Troika Events, which is organising the festival.

He adds, "The festival will help us reach out to more people about the benefits of cycling. Not only is it environmentally friendly, it also helps you stay fit."

The best names in the business will showcase their offerings at the festival, which includes a variety of cycles, such as folding bikes, e-bikes, tricycles and indoor cycles. You can also check out apparel, activity trackers, and a range of other accessories.

From talks to workshops and demos, here are some of the highlights of the festival.
