Are your kids spending more time glued to a screen rather than spending it outdoor playing? This workout will ensure that your little ones have the same fun you had growing up. Jyoti Gandhi, a 62-year old Juhu resident is re-launching her kids gym called Skippy's where she will be using old Indian games to help kids exercise.
"In the 1980's, colour television had started entering Indian households and play time was getting switched with screen time. Games such as lagori (pittu), Dog And The Bone, Gilli Danda et al had started to lose its charm. Thirty years later in 2017, we are facing the similar issues, where kids have no understanding of the concept of free play. That's where Skippy's Workout steps in," says Gandhi.
This workout programmes have been designed for age-groups between four to six years and seven to nine years. An hour long session begins with kids settling in and breaking the ice by getting to know each other. It will then be followed by soft exercise, where the instructors will introduce them to a theme for the day. For instance, during the zoo theme, stretching will involve kids imitating a giraffe or pretending to be a snake while doing Bhujangasan.
Once the kids are engaged, they will be given equipment to play with such as ball, yoyos, xylophone, marbles and host of other Indian toys that will help them improve their motor skills and enhance their creativity. This will be followed by free play time, storytelling sessions and more.
To encourage the kids to play outdoors, a few of the sessions will also be conducted outdoors and at an extra cost they can opt for swimming and horse-riding lessons as well. These, besides the forgotten desi outdoor games.

Upon signing up, each kid will be given his own kit with a yoga mat, water bottle and a duffle bag to ensure uniformity during the outdoor sessions. Skippy's will also host free sessions for parents which will be conducted by their panel of experts. These experts will also be monitoring the progress of the little ones through the sessions. So if you have a picky eater, you can take guidance from the nutritionist on board and get help in designing a special menu too.
