Shree Thaker Bhojanalay, Kalbadevi: This iconic eatery that dates back to 1945 is one of the first in the city to start serving aamras-puri, as soon as the Alphonsos make their way to Mumbai in early March. Krishna Purohit, manager at Shree Thaker Bhojanalay, says, "We have been serving aamras-puri for around 75 years. It's a strictly seasonal dish that we serve between March-April and June. In the peak season we serve Alphonso aamras, and later, switch to a mix of mangoes, such as Rajapuri, Langda, Dussehri, etc." The sweet dish accompanies their famous Gujarati thali, and on weekends, one can help themselves to unlimited servings. "We also make mango halwa, shrikhand and barfi in the season," he says, adding that they take delivery orders over call.

Pancham Puriwala: Aamras fans swear by this Fort restaurant's version of the summer delicacy. Owner-partner Sandeep Sharma of the pre-Independence puri heaven notes that aamras-puri is a relatively recent addition to their expansive menu, dating back a couple of decades. "Our speciality is the freshness of mangoes that we have been sourcing from a trusted seller for years, and of course, the puris, for which we're known," he adds. Get spoilt for choice with options ranging from aamras with sada puri and masala puri to five other kinds of puris.
