Thanks to TV shows like Eat Street and movies such as Chef, we've often imagined food trucks as part of our cityscape, dolling out tasty budget meals, at the Marine Drive promenade or post a late-night live gig at Mahalaxmi Race Course.

We found our dream truck when we spotted the fully-equipped 12-food long Bombay Food Truck parked at Lower Parel's Kamala Mills. Freshly coated in red and ready to roll out on the streets by the end of this month, it comes with all the necessary nuts and bolts - grills, fryers, exhaust fans, the works. It will dish out street-style gourmet fare, priced between Rs 100 and Rs 200.
Currently in the process of procuring all the licenses that would allow the truck to move freely across town, the co-owners - Ashish Sajnani and Juspreet Singh Walia (of PDT fame) - will open its windows to patrons with a month-long halt at Kamala Mills. Post that, you can follow the truck's route on Instagram.
Chicken Nuggets with Aioli Cheese, Microgreens and French Fries
Already working towards introducing five more trucks by next March, the owners also plan to use it for brand activation tie-ups, onsite catering as well as at weddings. Plus, home chefs who wish to rustle up exciting fare can also hop on to this truck to curate special menus.
What's on the menu?
With a work-in-progress menu, the truck will offer on-the-go, non-messy options like nuggets, meatballs, nachos, salads, hot dogs, sandwiches and burgers and will also feature kids' section with smaller portion sizes. For beverages, they're sticking to the quintessential nimbu paani. We hope they serve other fresh juices too.
Meatballs with Fresh Tomato Sauce
Packing in bagfuls of flavour and innovative combinations, most of the dishes scored high on our taste meter. Thumbs up to the wholesome portions too. We started with Chicken Nuggets with Blue Cheese Aioli, Micro Greens and French Fries. The sour cheese complemented the crisp nuggets and the fries added to the taste. The Veg FLT (Falafel, Lettuce, Tomato) packed into two portions of pita bread was satiating, though slightly dry.
Twist in the tale
A deconstructed version of its street counterpart, the Kheema Pav Bambaiya Style featured a kadak multi-grain pav (in a bowl-like shape) with minced meat scooped into it. It came topped with a wobbly egg yolk. As told, we stirred the egg yolk into the kheema and took a bite with the pav. With the right amount of crunch and spices, this version of kheema pav was a winner.
Kheema Pav Bambaiya Style was a heavenly take on its street-style counterpart
The Meatballs With Fresh Tomato Sauce (with an overload of French Fries) was of melt-in-the-mouth variety with the tangy sauce cooked to perfection. The Mutton Kheema Hotdog was tasty but slightly cumbersome to eat. Though too full, we couldn't resist the quirky Do Nut Murgi Burger. Featuring grilled chicken and melted cheese packed between a doughnut, we loved this cool form of the burger. We bid adieu to the truck hoping to continue our affair with her on the streets soon.
