How often do you think of the hands that grow wheat when you tuck into a roti? What does politics have to do with the meat you eat, or don't? An upcoming online workshop, Studying Food Level 1, aims to give you some food for thought, and then some.
Conceived and anchored by archaeologist and food anthropologist Dr Kurush F Dalal, it first took off in 2019. When the world shuttered in 2020, it migrated online. Coordinated by Radhika Radia, co-founder of Mythopia, the workshops are curated by home chef, archaeologist and food chronicler Rhea Mitra Dalal.
The work-shop is spread across 10 days. "The topics range from food and politics, social media and traditional media, to food and diaspora, mythology and methodology, among others," Radia reveals. Speakers for this edition include Dr Dalal, Rhea, Ragini Kashyap, Shubhra Chatterji, Vernika Awal, Kalyan Karmakar and Radia. The sessions won't make you an expert, she cautions. "What Dr Dalal always shares with participants is that this is just a kickstarter, a thought platter. You become more aware of what and how you're eating, and the choices you're making," Radia elaborates.
