India's multiple harvest festivals, Lohri, Pongal, and Makar Sankranti, may have diverse traditions but they are all known to be a celebration of produce and an expression of gratitude. Food is an integral part of any festival and as each corresponds to different regions, we have a bevy of flavourful dishes to indulge ourselves in. Below, we've cherry-picked two special festive meals served by Mumbai's top establishments to satisfy your cravings.
Traditional Pongal Feast
The Tanjore Tiffin Room is offering a classic Pongal special thali celebrating the multi-day harvest festival observed by the Tamil community. The restaurant, among the few serving authentic Tamil food in the city, is serving Pongal specialities including steaming Veg Stew and Veg Madras Curry, Avial, flaky Malabar parotta, Porial, and a symbolic Banana. The star of the meal will be the Sweet and Savoury Pongal (INR 250) that can be ordered separately as well.
Kishore DF, Founder of The Tanjore Tiffin Room shares, "We're the only Tamil restaurant which works like a bistro, serving home-style food from my home town Madras. Traditionally, we do a savoury Pongal which is our version of khichari, apart from the lentils it has nuts, curry leaves, and a peppery flavour. The sweet version has rice cooked in jaggery, elaichi, raisins, and cashew nuts. Both rice dishes celebrate the harvest."
