Bombay Vintage Colaba's newest culinary addition does a good job by offering Indian food with a western twist
Pav Bhaji Pizza
Food: Good
Service: Friendly
Ambiance: Warm
As soon as we stepped inside Bombay Vintage, we couldn't miss the ode to all things vintage - from an art deco-themed bar, vintage tiles along its walls, bentwood chairs to marble top tables on a mezzanine level. The menu is very local, too, featuring items like Vada Pav Sliders, Tawa Fry and Prawns Curry served by waiters who wear Gandhi caps. There are some crowd-pleasing additions including pasta, risottos and salads.

Comfortably tucked in a corner, listening to Jazz and Blues playlist, we ordered for Malta Cranberry Caipiroska (Rs 310) and an Old Fashioned (Rs 360). The Caipiroska was forgettable, while the Old Fashion was standard. We suggest you opt for Bira by the bucket (Rs 900). The cocktails began and ended our passable run.

Being pav bhaji fans, we couldn't resist the Pav Bhaji Pizza (Rs 245), which was a thin curst wonder with a spread of the spicy bhaji topped with loads of mozzarella. Happy with the Mumbai-style remix, we called for a Chicken Misal (Rs 265) and a Makhni Pasta (Rs 295). Served in a tiffin, the misal can be ordered with rice roti or maska buns. The misal was fiery; just the way we like it. The butter loaded mini buns were perfect.

It could do with little less âwatana' (white peas) ,though. Makhni Pasta might sound blasphemous, but for those who love their âPunjabi' gravy food, it's worth a try. We polished it off in minutes. The Bacon Wrapped Prawns (Rs 345) - crispy bacon wrapped over large prawns - makes for great finger food. For dessert, we tried the Volae Bella (Rs 225); this was a Mangalore black jaggery twist to the sizzling brownie with ice cream. The jaggery that serves as a base instead of a brownie might be bitter for some but added just the right punch to the vanilla scoop, we thought.
Bombay Vintage plays safe with its food experiments, but does a good job with portions. With new appealing cocktails, it might make for a cosy eating spot after your next Colaba shopping rendezvous.
