After a short hiatus, a popular Bandra bakery is back in a new avatar and is servign delish desserts
If you've missed the glass counter that would effortlessly tempt you with its Blueberry Cheescake and Banoffee Pie at Out Of The Blue in Bandra, we have good news.
Deliciae Patisserie now has a standalone store in Khar. While most pastry shops have been going with the white-and-pink Parisian look, this fairly spacious store with a seating of high bar chairs, wooden tables and comfy couch stools, has pale pink (or rose, like the owners call it) walls that are set off by contrasting grey ones and warm wooden flooring.
The glass counter is still what catches your attention, though. There are shortcakes, meringues, tarts and cakes crafted by Le Cordon Bleu-trained Bunty Mahajan. "People knew us at Out Of The Blue.
However, due to BMC restrictions we were later asked to move to the back of the premises. And recently, when the restaurant was taken over, they gave the contract to someone else. This gave us reason to get out of the comfort zone and finally start out on our own," shares Mahajan who, after training at Bachman in the UK, has been known for her customised cake designs.
Most of the desserts on display are new, apart from a few signatures from the older lot. The mildly flavoured Lemon Blueberry Tart (Rs 160) encased in a biscuit-y pastry was light. The base was crisp and crumbly, as it should be. We also enjoyed the rich coffee flavour (Rs 60) among the tarts, which was neither too bitter nor too sweet. Since it's strawberry season and all the desserts topped with the fresh, pink fruit looked inviting, we tried the eggless Rich Chocolate Strawberry cake (Rs 180). The tangy strawberries balanced the gooey, dense chocolate perfectly.
Our pick from this pâtisserie would be the fruity shortcakes. Don't miss the one featuring crumbly shortcake sandwiched between unsweetened cream and fresh strawberries, and dusted with icing sugar. We're going back just for this one. Soon, there will be tea and coffee and savoury snacks on offer, too.
