The pretty suburb will play host to its biggest food festival, which will bring together restaurants and pop-ups from across the city to an open-air venue

Come Saturday, and the suburb of Powai will witness The Full Plate, its biggest food festival yet. With stalls by restaurants and home chefs from across the city, the festival hopes to turn Powai into a food hub in its own right."We're calling it the no-cook weekend, and we will have over 25 counters by eateries including Bachelorr's and The Burgery, as well as stalls by Kaavo Meat and other home chef/delivery ventures. We might even have Bombay Food Truck dishing out its fare," says Pallavi Das, founder of The J-Peg Factory, which is part of the team organising the event. She adds that although no alcohol will be served at the venue, visitors can enjoy a range of beverages, from milkshakes and juices to gola.

Das is actively involved in making Powai a hub of activity, having organised events like a farmers' market, a Halloween party for kids and more in the suburb. She shares that while Powai is no stranger to such gatherings, a food festival of this size has never been held here in the past. "Powai is a little world in itself, and we thought it was time to invite other people into the fold. We're expecting a footfall of 4,000, including Powai residents and people coming in from neighbouring areas like Andheri, Ghatkopar, Goregaon, Chembur, and Mulund. Anyway, I don't think Powai will be able to accommodate any more than that," she laughs.

There will be gigs and other live entertainment for visitors through the weekend

She mentions that for The Full Plate, they have collaborated with MUMO [Mumbai Moms], a social media community that has over two lakh members. "We're hoping this will help us reach more people."

Apart from the food, Das shares that there will be a DJ, live performances by bands as well as other entertainment. "We will also be setting up a play area for kids, with bouncy castles and trampolines, and a nursery. It's not all about the food; it's complete family fun," she says.
