Discover baked goodness and a meal-by-itself mutton preparation at a Bohri pop-up this weekend

Dabba Gosht

As far as meat-filled feasts go, the traditional Bohri thaal ranks pretty high on the scale. This weekend, head to the Colaba home of the Kapadia family to enjoy eats at The Bohri Kitchen's latest pop-up.

Here, the star of the show is the Chicken Dabba Gosht. "This is one of the few baked dishes cooked by our community. It's usually made with mutton, but this time, we're making it using boneless chicken. The dish is layered with vegetables like carrots, peas, potatoes as well as plenty of egg," says host Nafisa Kapadia.

Karamra

She adds that the dish was named Dabba Gosht because back in the day, instead of being baked, the contents would be steamed in a dabba, which would then be overturned once cooked.

Another specialty making an appearance at this pop-up is the Mutton Chikoli, which features a gravy made with boneless mutton. "It's a meal in itself. Apart from the mutton, it has a lot of vegetables, chickpeas and pieces of roti," says Kapadia.

Kheema Samosas

You will also get to taste Smoked Mutton Kheema Samosas, Shammi Kebabs, Karamra (a rice-based sweet dish garnished with pomegranates and dry fruits), and the TBK Raan in Red Masala. The meal is served the traditional way, on a massive thaal, from which everyone takes what he or she wishes, but you can also serve yourself on individual plates.
