No, it isn't another Pokémon fad. Here's how eateries are tossing up a popular, healthy Hawaiian street staple that's taken the West by storm


DIY Poke Bowl

Introduced on its menu last month, Foodhall gives you the option to make your own bowl with a variety of ingredients, veggies and sauces. For the protein-rich base, pick from teriyaki prawn, miso-marinated fish, crispy garlic chicken or soy-glazed soft-boiled eggs. Go for Japanese house salad or sweet ginger marinated mushrooms as a topping and dress it up with lemon ponzu, sriracha mayo or a traditional soy-sesame sauce.

What is a Poke Bowl?
Derived from the Hawaiian verb for 'section' or 'to slice', poke (poh-key) is a raw fish salad served as an appetiser in Hawaiian cuisine. Resembling a deconstructed sushi, a typical Hawaiian Poke includes a combination of raw fish, green onion, seaweed, cucumber and avocado slices, garnished with sesame seeds and Togarashi (Japanese capsicum) and dressed with soy-sesame sauce. It's often served on top of sushi rice in a bowl, making it a Poke Bowl. It is touted as the hottest food trend of the year, with a number of poke outposts cropping up across American cities.

Salmon Spicy Poke Bowl

Find a bunch of ingredients including salmon, avocado, sesame, soy, sesame oil, vinegar, a spicy mango sauce, seaweed, scallions, caviar, salmon roe and radish laid over a bed of rice in a healthy and filling poke bowl at Yuuka.
